Clarence & Maeve

Group

Clarence DOB: 17/05/2015 & Maeve DOB: 23/05/2016

Clarence and Maeve are a wonderful pair who have formed a really strong bond, and we would love to find them a home together.

Clarence is a wonderfully easy-going boy. He is super friendly, funny and incredibly chilled, with a lovely character that makes him such a pleasure to be around. He even has a rather impressive trick up his sleeve, as he will happily give you a high five! He is just one of those cats who seems perfectly content to potter along, enjoy some attention and generally take life as it comes.

Maeve is much more cautious. She came to Farplace from Ireland with her sister Ryanne via another rescue, and shares a similar background and temperament. She’s a little more flighty than Ryanne and can be unsure when meeting people, but being around her friends makes a huge difference to her confidence. Clarence in particular helps her feel safe, and when she’s comfortable, Maeve will happily come over for cuddles and affection.

She’s such a sweet girl, but she needs somebody who understands that she may need a little time before she feels completely at home. A calm environment and a patient family would give her the opportunity to gradually become the confident cat we know is hiding underneath that nervous exterior.

The two of them absolutely adore one another, so we’d really like their new home to be somewhere quiet, peaceful and understanding, where they can stay together and Maeve can continue building her confidence with Clarence by her side.

Clarence does have pancreatitis, but thankfully this is very well controlled with the right diet. If he has a flare-up, he can experience vomiting, so keeping him on his current food is important. He is doing extremely well on Hill’s Z/D dry food alongside gastrointestinal wet food, and when his diet is kept consistent, he has very few problems. His new family will simply need to be aware that his diet is an important part of keeping him well.

Maeve has previously had one of her eyes removed following complications from cat flu. This was done in December 2016, and she has otherwise had no significant ongoing health problems. She manages perfectly well with her remaining eye.

It really is difficult to understand why these two have been overlooked for so long. Clarence is such a friendly, funny and relaxed boy, while Maeve is a gentle little soul who just needs someone prepared to give her the time she deserves. Together, they make a lovely pair, and we’d love to see them finally find their forever home.

Health

Clarence’s pancreatitis is currently managed very well through his diet. He needs to remain on Hill’s Z/D dry food and gastrointestinal wet food, as changes to his diet can lead to flare-ups and vomiting.

Maeve had one eye removed in December 2016 because of complications following cat flu. She has had no other significant ongoing health problems and copes very well with her remaining eye.

Before leaving for their new home, Clarence and Maeve will be castrated/spayed, microchipped and vaccinated, with their flea and worm treatments kept up to date. They will also both receive a full health check.

We’ll also provide you with a full copy of their veterinary records to keep for your own records when they go off to their new home.

Indoor-only policy

Our cats are rehomed as indoor-only cats. We know this is different from how cats were traditionally kept, but we believe keeping them indoors is the safest option for both cats and wildlife.

There are lots of risks associated with allowing cats to roam, including traffic, disease, theft, poisoning and conflict with neighbours. As a rescue that also cares for injured wildlife, we also feel strongly about reducing the impact domestic cats can have on local wildlife.

A secure catio or enclosed garden is always a wonderful addition, but it isn’t essential.

If you feel Clarence and Maeve could be the right cats for you, please email adoptions@farplace.org.uk for an adoption questionnaire. We can then arrange a home check.

We are happy to consider homes up to around two hours’ travel from the rescue. Any further than this can make it difficult for us to offer the support we feel is important after adoption. We hope you understand.

Farplace Animal Rescue is based in Weardale, County Durham, DL13 1LE.

We don’t have a fixed adoption fee, but we do ask for a donation towards the ongoing care of the animals at Farplace.

Please note: Farplace Animal Rescue is not open to the public.

We have a policy of checking potential homes prior to adoption.
This is to protect the animals we have rescued, and to offer advice and support. Check Our Adoption Policy
